Yous Sufi is a Moroccan-Canadian oil painter based in Toronto, with a practice spanning 24 years. Every work on this site is an original oil on canvas, one of a kind, signed on the front by the artist, and accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity.

The work moves between figurative surrealism and Sufi symbolism, carrying a mark-making sensibility that traces back to an ephemeral discipline. Before oil painting became his primary practice, Yous Sufi trained artists in a henna atelier in Los Angeles, where he helped develop the tools used for paste drawing at scale. That grounding in a temporary, gestural medium shapes how he approaches a permanent one. Line arrives first. Colour follows.

He was born in Morocco and educated in the French system, studied in California, and moved to Toronto in 2005 to commit fully to oil on canvas. Between 2009 and 2012 he worked from a countryside studio in Morocco with a 50-meter roll of canvas, producing the large-format paintings that anchor his current body of work. In March 2025, 150 of his oil paintings were animated across four immersive rooms at Villa Luna in PHYGITAL, a two-night retrospective covering 24 years of practice.

The collection is organised into four series. Quadruplicity explores the self as more than one figure. The Girl is a recurring feminine presence painted across seasons and interiors. La Fleur treats flowers as portraits rather than still life. Lumière du Coeur takes light itself as the subject, painted from the inside out.
